House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is backing legislation to keep the U.S. Supreme Court at nine justices, pushing back against efforts by Democrats to expand the court.
Jordan argues the legislation is especially important as some on the left call for adding seats to the Supreme Court. He says Republicans are working to preserve the constitutional structure of the court.
Jordan also discusses the Judiciary Committee’s investigation into sanctuary jurisdictions, including allegations that Fairfax County prosecutors consider immigration status when determining how to handle criminal cases involving illegal immigrants. He says the committee could issue subpoenas for documents if necessary.
The chairman also addresses birth tourism and birthright citizenship, arguing that the 14th Amendment should not automatically grant citizenship to children born in the U.S. to foreign nationals who are not subject to U.S. jurisdiction.
