Former Democrat House Judiciary Committee chief counsel Julian Epstein outlines unverified claims Omar may have misrepresented her age to obtain immigration status as a minor, stressing he does not know whether the allegations are true.
“The speculation, and I have to emphasise it's only speculation, is that there was immigration fraud,” Mr Epstein told News24 host Elizabeth Pipko.
“In particular, when Omar's father, when Representative Omar's father was naturalised back in the 2000s, she claimed to be 17 years old, and there is a provision in immigration law that entitles her to automatic naturalisation if she's a minor.
“There are at least rumours floating around that I think have some credibility. I don't know if they're true or not, that she was, in fact, a year older and that she had lied about that.
“If she did, in fact, lie about that, then that would be considered immigration fraud.”
